You may have done everything "right" and you're still tired. Perhaps the answer isn't more.

Therapy for Venice, right around the corner

Venice asks people to look unbothered. The work happens in a converted garage off Abbott Kinney or at a desk facing the canals, the calendar is nominally your own, and the cost of holding all of that together is not something the setting invites you to mention. A lot of what we hear from Venice sits in that gap between how a life looks and how it runs.

We are a group practice led by a clinical psychologist, practicing relational psychodynamic therapy. We look closely at the underlying patterns beneath whatever brought you through the door, believing that the relationship between you and your therapist is where those patterns genuinely change. You can see us in person in Brentwood or online from wherever you are in California.

Couples and intimacy therapy in Venice

Couples arrive with a version of the same problem: something that used to be easy has become a negotiation, and neither person can say when that happened. We slow it down until you can both see what you are protecting at the moment it turns. Our couples work draws on training in psychoanalytic couples psychotherapy from the Newport Psychoanalytic Institute. We work in sex therapy, with intimacy and sexual stalemates, and with relationships that are not structured conventionally, and we are allied with LGBTQIA+, kink and consensually non-monogamous clients. If you are looking for intimacy counseling in Venice, that is the work. We draw on emotionally focused techniques inside that depth work, so the attention to what happens between you in the room sits alongside the longer question of where each of you learned to do it. Our page on couples therapy at Brentwood Therapy Collective describes how the work begins.

Somatic therapy in Venice

Some things do not resolve by being explained again. When anxiety or an old injury lives in the body, talking about it from the neck up tends to leave the nervous system exactly where it was. Our somatic work is grounded in certified somatic trauma therapy and EMDR training, and we work with adults who spend most of the day in something close to fight or flight. If you are looking for a somatic therapist in Venice, that work happens in Brentwood and online. For trauma specifically, our EMDR therapy page describes how we fold it into ongoing therapy rather than running it as a standalone protocol.

IFS therapy in Venice

Internal Family Systems treats the mind as having parts rather than a single voice, which is useful when you can watch yourself do the thing you decided not to do. We work with IFS alongside psychodynamic and contemporary psychoanalytic practice and mindfulness, so the parts work sits inside a longer conversation about where those patterns came from. If you are looking for IFS therapy in Venice, Kim sees clients in Brentwood and online across California.

Anxiety therapy in Venice

Anxiety near the beach still looks like competence from the outside. The work goes out on time, and the cost shows up at two in the morning or in a body that will not settle once the week is over. We treat anxiety as something with a history rather than a malfunction, and we get curious about what the worry is doing for you and where it learned to do it. Anxiety is one of our named specialties. Our anxiety therapy in Los Angeles page describes how that unfolds.
